What has exercise based therapy done for me?
I became a C-5 quad after a diving accident. After my injury, I had a very weak trunk, minimal movement in my left leg and no movement in my right leg. I was doing traditional therapy, but most therapists only focused on my arms and did nothing to try and strengthen my core and legs. When I heard about exercise-based therapy, I was excited to try it out. During my first session, the trainers worked primarily on my trunk and legs. They set goals for me which I had previously thought were unattainable, but realized that were possible. Most importantly, I was surrounded by people with positive attitudes who encouraged me and showed me what I am capable of as opposed to telling me what I'll never do again.

I've been doing exercise-based therapy for over a year now and have a much stronger core and improved balance. Also, I've regained a lot of movement in both legs. I would highly recommend exercise-based therapy for anyone with a spinal cord injury.
