What has exercise based therapy done for me?
In May 2006, I was involved in a terrible basketball accident in the Philippines where another player fell on top of me. I dislocated c5-c6, which left me which left me as a quadriplegic. After 3 months of stabilization and rehab in the Philippines, I decided to move back home to the Bay Area for more aggressive rehab. I went Santa Clara Valley Medical Center where I was fortunately able to walk with a walker using AFO's. After a few months, I noticed that my recovery was starting to plateau and that I was not really getting any stronger. My physical therapist told me about SCI-FIT and the intense, aggressive, exercises they have for individuals like me.

On my first day at SCI-FIT, I knew that this was the perfect place for me. The trainers really push me to my limits, and for the first time since my accident, I feel like an athlete again. In such a short time, I have gained a lot more strength in my core, arms, and legs. In addition, I have increased range of motion and movements in all parts of my body. Now I am able to walk with crutches without using my AFO's. I look forward to coming into SCI-FIT each week as it gives me hope of recovery.
